How to Cut Bamboo Slats

Special thanks to Lacy Enderson, an eHow Contributing Writer for the following information:

Things You’ll Need:

  • Tape measure Chalk Table saw Gloves Goggles

First, measure the area you wish to use the bamboo slat for. If it is to trim a countertop edge, mark the measurement for cutting. If the slat will be used the full length of a ceiling, you might need to leave the full size. The nice thing about bamboo slats is they are easy to cut.

Step 2

Set up a table saw in a roomy area–you will need room on both sides of the saw to accommodate the 6-foot slats.

Step 3

Plug in and turn on the table saw. Hold both sides of the bamboo slats securely with your hands.

Step 4

Push the bamboo slat into the saw blade at the mark on your slat. Keep your fingers out of the way of the blade.

Step 5

Keep the bamboo slat straight to ensure that your cut is straight. Cut slowly to avoid making a mistake.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to use a saw blade in your table saw that has at least 120 teeth. This will ensure a nice clean cut.
  • Always wear gloves and goggles when using an electric power tool to protect your hands and eyes from sharp blades and flying wood pieces.
