Thatching is a very old tradition handed down from generation to generation in many countries around the world including Mexico, Asia, Africa, Tahiti along with many more! If your building a tiki bar, tiki hut or just looking to have a tropical themed home then look no further.
Natural Climate Control
Thatch roofing has been a perfect shade structure with its insulating qualities, which can be 20 degrees Fahrenheit cooler depending on the climate. Thatch has great air-flow, meaning it keeps warm air during colder months and keeps cool air during the hotter months. Thatch also is wonderfully resistant to high winds as an adaptation to their natural environment. The wind will flow right through the air pockets reducing the amount of stress they have to endure. This makes thatch products great for places with high winds such as hurricanes or tropical storms.
Commercial Use
Thatch is widely used commercially in the United States to create a tropical atmosphere in such places as restaurants and theme parks. There are many types of thatch products available at Forever Bamboo from natural to synthetic. Our thatch comes in four styles: Mexican, African, Tahitian, and synthetic Viro.
Mexican Thatch
Mexican thatch is made from palm leaves woven together to make panels, runners, and umbrella covers. The thatch can also be used for palapas or a tropical roof, equivalent to the English thatched roof. This is the most popular style that is used by commercial builders in California. Mexican palm thatch lasts 3-5 years. Our Mexican thatch is easy to handle and installation should not be a problem. The length and size of the panels is customizable and can be cut with scissors without the it unraveling.
African Thatch
African Thatch panels are made from cape-reed material and are turned into a pre-fabricated thatch system for easy installation. This is a well-liked product for resorts and theme parks. Our African Thatch panels generally last 8-10 years depending on the climate and treatment. Our African Thatch panels are ready for installation and are easy to handle.
Tahitian Thatch
Tahitian thatch is made from hardy palm leaves sewn together with industrial string. It generally lasts 10-15 years depending on the climate and treatment. Our Tahitian thatch panels are made so it can be installed easily and will give your business or home a beautiful tropical look that can be enjoyed for many years.
Synthetic Viro Thatch
Synthetic Viro Thatch is made from polyethylene materials engineered and developed to be a cost effective and a longer lasting alternative to natural thatch. The Synthetic Viro Thatch generally lasts about 20 years. Despite the fact that it is synthetic, it is 100% recyclable and 100% maintenance free. Viro thatch is easier to install compared to natural thatch and resists pest infestation.
Application of fire retardant to our thatch products is highly recommended for all commercial uses. It is recommended that you consult with your local fire Marshall prior to using flame retardant to any material.
Environmentally Friendly and Easy to Use
Our thatches are environmentally friendly and are used for making umbrellas or roofing. All you need is a good wooden base, string, and staples to create a sustainable roof or umbrella. The thatch can be recyclable as well, thus creating less of an impact on the environment as apposed to tar-pitched or tile roofs.
You can build your structure yourself or hire a contractor to create your tropical island oasis. Using your imagination you could create a personalized tropical design from using a round palapa pitched roof awning from our thatch roofing products.
